Before Ronald Reagan uttered those famous words, “Tear down this wall!” a child in East Germany was discovering her love of a once-forbidden art form: American Jazz. Throughout the years, this young girl’s passion for music has only grown and the world has begun to take notice.
Marion Fiedler has gained a widespread reputation as a singer, composer, and bandleader. She has been awarded numerous times for her works, and has received invitations to play at jazz festivals and concert halls across Europe and the United States. Her unique voice and growing repertoire of compositions continues to break boundaries, both literally and symbolically.
While rooted in jazz, Marion’s music has branched out with a pop flair. She contributes this to her time spent in Music City, USA. It was there that she perfected her songwriting craft. As an international student, studying jazz voice and composition at Belmont University, she found inspiration in the challenges she faced. Marion’s songs began to reflect her personal story of growth and learning “how to fly.”
Her journey led to her forming her own “melting pot.” Marion adapted to the States’ progressiveness, while maintaining her European sensibility. Her latest project, “Can I Ride in Your Backpack?” is an Example of just that. As a grassroots marketing campaign, the plan is to spread Marion´s music to untouched corners of the world.
“Can I Ride In Your Backpack?” is a collection of songs Marion wrote on her travels and tours. This campaign will allow for her music, to once again, play on the stage of reality. Lyrics written from her past experiences will rejoin the present. Only this time, the music will have new “travel escorts.” It will be making its way through uncharted territory, without its author.
A few thousand physical CDs will be released into the hands of supporters. From there, it will be passed from hand to hand, from backpack to backpack. With each exchange, the new escort is welcome to download the songs and send a greeting back to Marion and her band, starting an open dialogue.
Upon the announcement of this project, Marion has already received tons of excited messages from fans, partners like labels, sponsors and musicians, and press agencies! By growing her fan base, she stands to accomplish her mission of building a bridge to connect people from various backgrounds. For through music and faith, all walls can be breached.
